Bollek wird wegen Erpressung verurteilt. Paul Körner wird allerdings ebenfalls verurteilt: wegen Vergehens gegen den § 175.
Die Armstrongs, ein amerikanisches Ehepaar, machen Urlaub in den Dolomiten und wollen sich ein wenig von ihrem öden Ehealltag erholen. Womit sie nicht gerechnet haben, ist Offizier Erich von Steuben, gespielt von Erich von Stroheim, ein gleichermaßen nobler wie aufdringlicher Kavalier. Von Steuben setzt alles in Bewegung, um die charmante Arztgattin zu erobern. Der Einzige, der Steuben Paroli bietet, ist ein Bergführer, der den dekadenten Offizier durchschaut; dieser behauptet auch, ein guter Bergsteiger zu sein. So vereinbaren Armstrong und von Steuben eine gemeinsame Bergtour. Am Gipfel angekommen, entdeckt Armstrong einen Brief seiner Frau, in dem sie sich eigentlich von ihrem übergriffigen Verehrer distanziert. Aber ihr Mann glaubt, in dem Brief den Beweis einer Affäre zwischen seiner Frau und dem Offizier zu haben, und zerschneidet das Seil zwischen ihm und von Steuben. Ihm selbst gelingt der Abstieg, von Steuben stürzt ab.

A gang of crooks evade the police by moving their operations to a small town. There the gang's leader encounters a faith healer and uses him to scam gullible public of funds for a supposed chapel.
