Sanya misstraut Tolyan zunächst sehr und nimmt ihm seine Anwesenheit und Autorität übel. Durch sein gutes Aussehen, seine wahrnehmbare Großzügigkeit und seinem Status als Kriegsveteran, gelangt Tolyan stets in lukrative Positionen. Katya und Sanya nehmen zusehends die harte und ansteigende missbräuchliche Natur des neuen Familienoberhauptes wahr, doch weder Katya noch Sanya sind gewillt, sich von Tolyan zu trennen. Das Ausmaß von Tolyans Liebe und Zuneigung für seine neue Familie bleibt während des Films unerklärt und unterstützt damit ein unverzichbares Element des Films.
