Die stehen aber auf gegnerischen Seiten und drohen sich gegenseitig umzubringen, sobald ihre Verletzungen verheilt sind. Als allerdings ein Fecht-Wettbewerb in Leningrad ausgetragen werden soll, wird Endel vor eine schwierige Wahl gestellt, denn wenn er dorthin fährt, bringt er sich selbst in Gefahr. Doch kann er die Kinder, für die er zur Vaterfigur geworden ist, einfach so im Stich lassen?
