Im Mittelpunkt der Serie stehen die als Wu-Tang Clan bekannte Hip-Hop-Gruppe in New York City mit Rapper RZA als Frontmann und ihre Gründung zu Beginn der 1990er Jahre. Während des Höhepunkts der Crack-Epidemie formiert sich unter der Leitung des Rappers Bobby Digs alias RZA eine neue Gruppe von jungen Hip-Hop-Musikern. Die afroamerikanischen Künstler kennen bislang nichts anderes als Armut und Verbrechen, als sie über Nacht zu gefragten Musikern mit Millionen-Einnahmen werden. Mit Millionen verkauften Musiktonträgern treffen sie den Nerv der Zeit und leben ihren Traum von Reichtum und Ruhm. Zum Clan gehören neben RZA noch GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa und Cappadonna. Das ehemalige Mitglied Ol’ Dirty Bastard starb im Jahr 2004 an einer Überdosis.
