A musical romantic tragedy about a famous composer who moves back to his small hometown after having had heart troubles. His search for a simple everyday life leads him into teaching the local church choir which is not easily accepted by the town yet the choir builds a great love for their teacher.
Henrik is young and in love and moves with his girlfriend Anne into a commune in the countryside. It is the dawn of the 70's, a time to challenge authority and experiment with relationships. In this Danish suspense film, the foibles of the psychological helping professions are wryly surveyed. A woman has murdered her husband. That's clear enough. Now the woman is in a psychiatric hospital because it seemed clear to the judges that she was not fully competent. Her doctor, who is helping her a great deal, has problems of his own. First, he is against the cookie-cutter treatment practices of his hospital, second, he is on shaky mental ground himself. Taking place on a small villa road: The two neighbors Gormsen and Sandelund have been at a dispute for years and this evolves into an all out war. Sandelund is a wholesale dealer in meet, a capitalist and has one of this modem houses with a flat roof. Gormsen is a dentist, and a communist, he has a new wife that are younger then his son, and lives in one of these old-fashioned half-timbered houses. A third factor is the merchant Krause. To begin with he is a small time grocer and progresses into the end, a big time businessman. He is a deeply religious man, a good Christian, and member of the parochial church council. There children, (teenagers) find their conflict silly and stupid.
The kids and Uncle Anders want to participate in the hotels competition to become “The Sunny Family of The Year” but father says no, underlining that “We’re good enough as we are!” He changes his mind, though, when he meets the competing family, and recognize the father as his old school mate, who’s been bullying him for all of their school years, for being physically inadequate. Consequently father enters the competition with all his might and heart, and what should have been a friendly contest, ends up being a fight for honor and redemption, and it’s only by the loving and innovative intervention from the kids, that father in the ends realizes that the family really doesn’t need to go to any of such extremes. They are actually good enough as they are!
