It stars Rufus Sewell and Caterina Murino and is based on the Aurelio Zen detective novels by Michael Dibdin. The series was filmed on location in Italy, but the dialogue is in English. The series, which comprises three 90-minute films, was broadcast in the United Kingdom on Sunday evenings from 2 January 2011 on BBC One. The three films were based on the books Vendetta, Cabal and Ratking.

The Paul Hogan Show is a popular Australian comedy show which aired on Australian television from 1973 until 1984. It made a star of Paul Hogan, who later appeared in "Crocodile" Dundee. Hogan's friend John Cornell also appeared in the show, playing Hogan's dim flatmate Strop. It was adapted into a 1983 anime television series produced by Tatsunoko Productions and ran from January 9 to December 24, 1983 on Fuji TV. It was later released in Germany and Sweden as Rock'n Cop, in France as Super Durand, and in Italy as Ryo, un ragazzo contro un impero.Saban Entertainment planned to release the series in the United States as Rockin' Cops but did not do so. A film version was in the works, but was also abandoned.
