The Night Shift is an American medical drama television series that ran on NBC from May 27, 2014, to August 31, 2017, for four seasons and 45 episodes. The series was created by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, and follows the lives of the staff who work the late night shift in the emergency room at San Antonio Memorial Hospital. On November 17, 2016, NBC renewed the series for a fourth season, which premiered on June 22, 2017. On October 13, 2017, NBC canceled the series after four seasons. ()

The fourth and final season of the medical drama series The Night Shift began on June 22, 2017 on NBC in the United States with a timeslot change from Wednesday at 10:00 PM to Thursday at 10:00 PM. It is produced by Sachs/Judah Productions, and Sony Pictures Television with series creators Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah serving as executive producers. The season concluded on August 31, 2017 and contained 10 episodes. The series follows the overnight shift at San Antonio Medical Center, where after briefly quitting, the staff adjusts without former administrator and close friend, Dr. Topher Zia. Head of the night shift, Dr. Jordan Alexander (Jill Flint), works out a deal with new hospital owner, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Julian Cummings, to rehire most of the staff. Meanwhile, Dr. Drew Alister (Brendan Fehr), struggles to find a balance between work and his new role as a father, while Dr. TC Callahan (Eoin Macken) spends time overseas at the Turkey-Syria border dealing with the humanitarian crisis. Also, Dr. Shannon Rivera (Tanaya Beatty) and Dr. Paul Cummings (Robert Bailey Jr.) deal with their feelings for each other. ()
Season 4 picks up just 48 hours after the conclusion of Season 3, with the crew navigating the consequences of their decisions. In Syria, TC finds that suffering has no borders and channels his penchant for chaos into saving lives. Back in Texas, Dr. Jordan Alexander takes charge to keep the ER running. Parenthood forces Drew Alister to reevaluate his risk-taking behavior. Surgeon Scott Clemmens’ personal life remains anything but easy, but that won’t stop him from diving headlong into his professional one. Paul must deal with the repercussions of standing up to his father and pave his own way. His rival-turned-girlfriend Shannon Rivera and charge nurse Kenny Fournette will soon learn three’s a crowd in a one-bedroom apartment.

Back at the hospital, Paul deals with the repercussions of standing up to his father while Scott dives headlong into his professional life. Kenny butts heads with Cain, a traveling nurse with a mysterious past. Shannon indoctrinates Cain as they work in San Antonio Memorial's understaffed and overworked ER. Meanwhile, TC is held captive in Syria. In order to find Syd, TC must treat his captor instead of returning to the safety of an air base with a civilian volunteer, Amira.
