Jessie quits her job at the newspaper after she finds out another photographer is making more money then she is, because he is related to her boss. Kris meets her penpal Valerie whom she thought was a girl but isn't, she isn't thrilled at first but when he visits her, he makes her realize that she didn't tell him she was a girl.

Kris runs for student council with the help of a guy named Willie whom she just started talking to. Jessie tells Kris she will be an advisor for her schools newspaper, Kris is upset her mother will be at her school. Jessie has problems with a class clown Eric and takes charge of the class and threatens anyone that doesn't want to be serious with the paper will be kicked out. David thinks about getting his ear pierced. Molly and Bertha practice tap dancing around the house. Eric writes a story making fun of the candidates including Kris, Jessie thinks the article(satire) is good and tells Kris she is going to run it in the student paper. Kris says she will blame Jessie if she doesn't get elected. Willie is concerned with Kris' decisions in the election. She has been flirting with the guy who is running for student council president.
