Joaquín Cosío Osuna (born 6 October 1962) is a Mexican actor and poet. He has been nominated four times for the Mexican Academy of Film Ariel Awards, winning the Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work as Gabriel in The Thin Yellow Line in 2016. He is best known for roles such as Rubén "Mascarita" in Matando Cabos (2004), General Medrano in Quantum of Solace (2008), El Infierno (2010), he was Angel Guzman Hurtado, The Silver Angel in The Strain (2014–2017), Eufemio "El Cochiloco" Mata in El Infierno, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo in Narcos: Mexico (2018–2021) and Major General Mateo Suárez in The Suicide Squad (2021). Joaquin Cosío was born in Nayarit, Mexico. His training as an actor began in 1983 and has continued growing and developing ever since. In 1994, Cosío wrote his first stage play, titledTomochic: Or the day the world ended, which was awarded the National Literature Prize. Performing in over 50 plays and over 600 live performances, his stage career reached a new milestone in 1999 when he was hand selected to join the National Theater Company. This led Cosío to make the decision to move toMexico Citypermanently and focus on becoming a full-time actor. He has been working non-stop ever since as one of Mexico's most respected actors of stage and screen.He made his film debut in 2001 in the filmThe Blue Roomand he has since participated in over 30 feature films and several shorts. Cosío played a multi-episode role in theHBOcomedyEastbound & Down.
