Gunārs Piesis (19 July 1931 – 9 February 1996) was a Latvian film director. ()

Gunārs Piesis represents the first generation of professionally schooled Latvian directors. Piesis was the first one to dare to adapt Rainis for the screen. Gunārs Piesis was also the first to turn to Latvian fairy-tales.
