In an underground world where tunnels extend everywhere, even though they live in dark and confined spaces, people wear protective clothes and lead quiet and enjoyable lives. Patema, a princess in her underground village, loves to explore the tunnels. Her favorite place is a "danger zone" that her village prohibits people from entering. Even though she's scolded, Patema's curiosity can't be held back. No one ever explained what the supposed danger was. On her usual trip to the "danger zone," Patema faces unexpected events. When hidden secrets come to light, the story begins to unfold.

In the not-too-distant future, androids have come into common usage. However, treating androids on the same level as humans is frowned upon, and there is constant paranoia surrounding the possibility of robots defying humans, their masters. Those who appear too trustworthy of their androids are chided and labeled as "android-holics". Rikuo Sakisaka, who has taken robots for granted for his entire life, one day discovers that Sammy, his home android, has been acting independently and coming and going on her own. He finds a strange phrase recorded in her activity log, "Are you enjoying the time of EVE?". He, along with his friend Masakazu Masaki, traces Sammy's movements and finds an unusual café. Nagi, the barista, informs them that the café's main rule is to not discriminate between humans and androids. While Rikuo tries to reveal Sammy's intentions, he begins to question the legitimacy of the fear that drives humans to regard androids as nothing more than mere tools.

Influenced by the Robot Ethics Committee, it's become common sense for people to treat androids like household appliances. Their appearance – indistinguishable from humans except for the ring over each android's head – has led some people to empathize unnecessarily with androids. Known as "android-holics", such people have become a social problem. Rikuo, a high school student, has been taught from childhood that androids are not to be viewed as humans, and has always used them as convenient tools. One day, Rikuo discovers some strange data in the behavior records of his family's household android, Sammy. Rikuo and his friend Masaki trace Sammy's movements, only to discover a mysterious café that features a house rule that "humans and robots are to be treated the same".

Sinbad Jr. and his Magic Belt, is a series of 5-minute cartoons which originally aired between 1965-1966, produced by Hanna-Barbera studios for the American International Television division of American International Pictures, and were shown during a half-hour cartoon. Sinbad Jr. is the son of Sinbad, the famous sea explorer. He becomes superhuman getting his power from his magic belt. His first mate is the funny and loyal assistant Salty the Parrot. Matheson and Blanc were the voices used in the Hanna-Barbera versions. Sinbad Jr., the Sailor was originally titled The Adventures of Sinbad, Jr. and produced for American International Television by Sam Singer. In an effort to improve the quality of the animation, production of the 1965 syndicated cartoons was taken over by Hanna-Barbera, making it one of the few cartoons to be produced by two different studios. It was renamed Sinbad Jr., the Sailor out of deference to the 1962 Toei Studios feature-length cartoon, Adventures of Sinbad. The rights to the series are now owned by AIP successor Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the studio where the Hanna-Barbera team got its start.
