In the Line of Duty is a series of girls with guns feature films produced by Hong Kong movie studio D & B Films which star, in the first two, Michelle Yeoh and, in subsequent instalments, Cynthia Khan as a police officer who combines use of firearms with martial arts. The third was the first to use the In the Line of Duty title, retroactively applied to the two Michelle Yeoh vehicles.
A disc with the names of Triad members is taken away, and when the gangsters try and find about where it is, they kill the only person who knows the hiding-place. So, what can be done now to retrieve the disc? The Hong Kong police are looking for the murderer and the disc, but Inspector Yeung has to realize her fiancée Ho Chan is one of the gangsters! The trace of the disappeared disc leads to Malaysia, where the victim's girlfriend lives...
Though policewoman Hsie Wan-chin (Cynthia Yang Li-ching) is merrily planning for her wedding with fellow cop Wilson Tsiang (Lawrence Ng Kai-wah), he is having an illicit affair with her best friend, May (Moon Lee). When Wilson tries to break things off, May doesn't take it well. When she learns that Wilson and Wan-chin are moving to England, she completely loses it.
After fleeing vietnam, John joins his brother on board his ship, running illicit goods into Hong Kong. The rest of the ship's crew are under the command of Keung and they have a sideline in pirating, targeting vietnamese refugee boats in particular. On one such boat, they come across Gary and his sister, who is promptly killed, along with the rest of the crew: Gary only being saved, thanks to John throwing him into the sips hold, where he hides, struck with amnesia, until they arrive in Hong Kong. once there, Gary manages to flee the ship, but soon finds himself wanted by both the pirates and the police, namely inspector Yeung, with John stuck in between his brother and his friend...

Two detectives who are up to their necks in trouble and in each other's face, as they try to shut down a drug-trafficking scheme that could be connected with international ties to organized crime. In a bloody beginning, a pair of stylish Japanese thieves steal some valuable gems. In a harrowing scene, during their escape, they kill the partner of a ruffled detective (think Columbo with a Chuck Barris hairdo). The detective swears revenge, and the thieves played by the athletic and lovely Michiko Nishiwaki and her terminally ill partner/lover played by Stuart Ong plan on going to Hong Kong, sell the loot, and buy weapons for the Red Army. All the while Cynthia, a rookie cop in Hong Kong, tries to get in on the action of the task force she has been assigned to, but unfortunately her superior is her uncle who wants to keep her out of harms way. The Japanese thieves and the detective trailing them, all make their way to Hong Kong, and Cynthia ends up entangled in the same mess with the detective, trying to bring the cold blooded and desperate thieves to justice. People on both sides are killed, leading to crossed paths of personal revenge, everyone out for each others blood.
Michelle Yip of the Hong Kong police is a mild-mannered Kung Fu expert; Michael Wong from air security is happy-go-lucky, stuck on himself, constantly talking, and smitten by her; Yamamoto is quiet, hard-boiled, leaving the Tokyo police to spend time with his wife and daughter. They form an alliance when they foil a hijacking on a plane flying a mob prisoner from Tokyo to Hong Kong. The mobster and his would-be rescuer die; this sets off two avengers who were their blood brothers. Our three cops become the targets. A high-speed chase, a car bomb, the destruction of a nightclub, a spectacular suicide, dead bystanders, and a flying coffin litter the landscape by the end.
