Sky Arts hosts a competition like no other to find the best European amateur or professional photographic talent. An eight-week, eight-episode trial in which finalists must convince a jury of world-famous photographers and experts of their creativity, instinct and versatility,to become the first Master of Photography. The winner will receive €150,000; a show; and a catalogue.
Im Mittelpunkt der Geschichte steht der Fotograf Tatsumi Saiga, der früher als Kriegs- und Krisengebiet-Fotograf tätig war, sich aber inzwischen als Paparazzo sein Geld verdient. Dabei hat sich Tatsumi auf Personen aus der Tokioter High Society, Wirtschaftsbosse und Politiker spezialisiert. Bei deren Beschattung erhält er eines Tages den Hinweis auf einen Club, in dem die Mitglieder eben jener Kreise dekadente Sex-Orgien feiern sollen. In Verkleidung verschafft sich der Fotograf Zugang zum Club und wird schließlich Zeuge eines bizarren Rituals, in der ein von den Anwesenden als „Göttin“ bezeichnetes Mädchen einem „Auserwählten“ die Gabe Euphoria verleihen soll.

Die 17-jährige Hitomi Tsukishiro lebt in einer Welt, in der Magie zwar ein kleiner, aber doch beständiger Bestandteil des Alltags ist. Hitomi ist die Nachfahrin einer Hexenfamilie und hat bereits in sehr jungen Jahren einen schweren Schicksalsschlag erlitten, indem sie die Fähigkeit verlor, Farben zu sehen. Seitdem zeigt sie nur noch selten Emotionen. Ihre Großmutter und erfahrene Hexe Kohaku macht sich seitdem große Sorgen um Hitomi und beschließt daher eines Tages, sie in der Zeit zurückzuschicken: Und zwar in das Jahr 2018! Dort trifft Hitomi auf die nunmehr ebenfalls 17-jährige Kohaku und ihre Freunde. Für Hitomi beginnt damit ein ganz neuer Lebensabschnitt.
