Der Tod Adolf Hitlers am 30. April 1945 beschäftigt seit Jahrzehnten zahlreiche Experten und Historiker. Für die neue Doku-Reihe „Hitlers Flucht – Wahrheit oder Legende?“ hat nun ein Expertenteam die im Jahr 2014 freigegebenen FBI-Dokumente ausgewertet und geht darin enthaltenen Hinweisen auf Hitlers Verbleib nach April 1945 nach.
Der als zweitteiliges TV-Movie produzierte Film beleuchtet den Aufstieg Adolf Hitlers vom gescheiterten Kunststudenten über den begabten Brauhaus-Demagogen bis hin zum deutschen Reichskanzler. Hauptaugenmerk liegt dabei auf den Jahren 1918 bis 1933, in denen Adolf Hitler anfangs durch politisch Konservative für ihre Zwecke "missbraucht" wurde und im weiteren Verlauf der Geschichte selbst vom "Marktschreier" zum politischen Führer aufgestiegen ist. Der um Seriosität bemühte, mit zwei Emmys prämierte 20-Mio.-Dollar-Film folgt Hitlers Weg bis zur „Machtergreifung“. Auf historische Akkuratesse wird dabei weniger Wert gelegt als auf ein treffendes Charakterbild.
