Melodifestivalen 2016 was the 56th edition of the Swedish music competition Melodifestivalen, which selected Sweden's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The competition was organised by Sveriges Television (SVT) and took place over six-week period between 6 February and 12 March 2016.
Melodifestivalen 2007 was the selection for the 47th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 46th time that this system of picking a song has been used. Five semifinals took place to select the ten songs for the final, in Jönköping, Gothenburg, Örnsköldsvik, Gävle and a Second Chance round in Nyköping. The final was broadcast on SVT1, SVT Europa, YLE FST5 and Sveriges Radio's P4 network. The pre-contest favourites were The Ark, with The Worrying Kind and they won, scoring the highest marks with both juries and televoters. The Ark also received the highest number of televotes a song had ever achieved in Melodifestivalen at the time, beating Carola's record from Melodifestivalen 2006. The record was later broken by Loreen at Melodifestivalen 2012.
Melodifestivalen 2004 was the selection for the 44th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 43rd time that this system of picking a song had been used. Five semifinals had taken place to select the ten songs for the final, in Karlstad, Gothenburg, Umeå, Malmö and a Second Chance round in Stockholm. The final was broadcast on SVT1 and Sveriges Radio's P4 network. The winner was Lena Philipsson with "Det gör ont" who later that year came in 5th place in Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Turkey with the English-language version It Hurts.
Melodifestivalen 2000 was the selection for the 40th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 39th time that this system of picking a song had been used; 1,394 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was broadcast on SVT2 and Sveriges Radio's P4 network. Roger Pontare (1994 winner with Marie Bergman) won the MF again with the rock-inspired ballad "När vindarna viskar mitt namn", donning a folk-inspired costume and featuring Native American dancers during his performance. The winning song was performed later in English at the Eurovision Song Contest as "The Spirits Are Calling My Name", placing seventh among 24 entrants.
Melodifestivalen 1997 was the selection for the 37th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 36th time that this system of picking a song had been used. 1,229 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was broadcast on SVT2 and Sveriges Radio's P3 network. The winner was the boyband Blond who later that year represented Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest 1997. The show was watched by 2,965,000 people.
Melodifestivalen 1994 was the selection for the 34th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 33rd time that this system of picking a song had been used. 1,560 songs were submitted to SVTfor the competition.
Melodifestivalen 1990 was the contest for selection of the 30th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 29th time that this method of picking a song had been used. 1,223 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was broadcast on TV2 but not on radio. The show was watched by 5,964,000 people, the biggest recorded audience for the competition (74.1% of Sweden's 1990 population).
