Der Original-Anime Kabukichou Sherlock spielt im namensgebenden Kabukichou-Distrikt des Tokioter Shinjuku-Bezirks. Der Kabukichou ist vor allem als Rotlichtdistrikt bekannt und so treiben sich hier natürlich fast nur zwielichtige Gestalten herum und umso tiefer man geht, umso länger werden die Schatten. Doch selbst hier – wo sich die fiesesten Bösewichte tummeln – scheint ein Licht unbeirrt in der Dunkelheit: ein kleines Detektivmietshaus, das Mrs. Hudson gehört und sieben äußerst fragliche Gestalten beherbergt. Der Vorhang öffnet sich als eines Nachts ein grausamer Mord die Straßen Kabukichous erschüttert – der Täter: Jack the Ripper!
