Sam Casey ist Agent für INTERSECT, eine staatliche Denkfabrik und Einsatzzentrale, die sich auf Geheimmissionen spezialisiert hat. Während eines Taucheinsatzes wurde Sam von der Strahlung einer Unterwasserexplosion betroffen. Die Strahlung machte ihn unsichtbar, aber INTERSECT entwickelte eine Möglichkeit, seine Unsichtbarkeit zu kontrollieren, indem es ihn mit einer Computeruhr ausstattete, die ihn sichtbar hielt. Er konnte es jedoch abschalten und für kurze Zeit wieder unsichtbar werden. Wenn er dies innerhalb von 24 Stunden länger als 15 Minuten täte, würde er sterben. Diese Fähigkeit, unsichtbar zu werden, machte ihn zu einem sehr effektiven Agenten.
