The Dead Lands is a Māori language horror television series based on the film of the same name. In 2019, AMC Networks' streaming service Shudder and TVNZ said they would create a TV series based on the film The Dead Lands. The first two episodes of The Dead Lands premiered on 23 January 2020 on Shudder's platforms. It also aired on TVNZ OnDemand in New Zealand immediately after its international debut. Subsequent episodes premiered on both Shudder and TVNZ OnDemand weekly. ()

Inhalt von The Dead Lands

Die Serie vereint mythische Legenden Neuseelands mit einer ausgewachsenen Zombie-Horrorgeschichte: Der grausame Maori-Krieger Waka Nuku Rau wird getötet, jedoch verwehren die Ahnen ihm den Zutritt ins Jenseits. Waka muss als Untoter auf die Welt zurückkehren, um bei einem gefährlichen Auftrag seine Sünden zu sühnen: Irgendjemand oder irgendetwas hat die fragile Verbindung zwischen der Welt der Lebenden und dem Reich der Toten aufgebrochen. Dadurch kehren die Geister der Verstorbenen als lebende Untote/Zombies zurück und machen Jagd auf die Lebenden. Waka versucht gemeinsam mit der jungen und furchtlosen Mehe die Welt zu retten und ringt bei seiner Mission mit Stammespolitik, den Geistern der Ahnen und anderen natürlichen und übernatürlichen Kräften.
