Die zeigt sich erwartungsgemäß von den Avancen des immermüden Herren gar nicht beeindruckt, zumal ihr Herz schon längst für den mutigen Maskenmann Zorro entflammt ist. Der kämpft nicht nur im allgemeinen gegen die Unterdrücker, sondern hält ihr auch noch ganz speziell einen weiteren aufdringlichen Verehrer, Captain Ramon, vom Leibe.

Marquis Sévéro, a rich, lazy Parisian, wants to divorce his wife so that he can marry his own goddaughter Denise. But Denise herself loves André Berval, an engineer employed by the marquis. He promises André that he can marry Denise if he is successful in the tropics, but he then writes to Alvarez, his manager at the site, asking him to prevent André from ever returning to France. The brutal Alvarez forms an instant hatred for André when the engineer breaks up Alvarez's attempt to rape Papitou, a beautiful native girl. Papitou becomes devoted to André, and protects him against Alvarez's schemes. But she faces a crisis herself when she learns that André plans to marry Denise.

Es kommt zum Streit und viele verlassen die Karawane und ziehen nach Kalifornien. Sam Woodhull, der sich mit Will Banion in einen Machtkampf um die Führung der Karawane und ebenso um die Gunst der jungen Molly Wingate verstrickt hat, wird in Notwehr erschossen. Sein Konkurrent Will Banion erhält die Hand von Molly und erreicht mit ihrem Vater und nur wenigen anderen das Ziel.
