Science-Fiction-Parabel über Totalitarismus. Zulawskis Film wurde von 1975-77 nach dem gleichnamigen Buch aus der Lunar-Trilogie seines Großvaters, des Schriftstellers Jerzy Zulawski gedreht. Nach Intervention des stellvertretenden Kulturministers wurde jedoch das größtenteils fertiggestellte Projekt gestoppt und die Zerstörung des gesamten Filmmaterials angeordnet. Das konnte jedoch verhindert werden.
