Die litauische Sprache (Litauisch; litauisch lietuvių kalba) ist eine baltische Sprache innerhalb der Familie der indogermanischen Sprachen. Es gibt knapp 3,2 Millionen Sprecher der litauischen Sprache. Litauisch ist Amtssprache in Litauen und seit dem 1. Mai 2004 eine der Amtssprachen in der EU. Litauischsprechende Minderheiten gibt es im Nordwesten von Belarus und im Nordosten Polens (Woiwodschaft Podlachien). Darüber hinaus leben größere Gruppen von Exillitauern in verschiedenen Ländern. Allein für Irland geht man von 120.000 Litauern aus, die in der anhaltenden Auswanderungswelle seit dem Zerfall der Sowjetunion nach 1990 zugewandert sind. Bis 1945 wurde Litauisch auch im nördlichen Teil Ostpreußens, dem sogenannten Kleinlitauen oder auch Preußisch-Litauen, gesprochen. Hier entstand im 16. Jahrhundert die litauische Schriftsprache. Eine historische Sprachperiode bzw. Entwicklungsstufe der litauischen Sprache war das Altlitauische. ()

Litauisch wird u.a. in Polen, Litauen und Belarus / Weißrussland gesprochen und 402 Filme (zwischen 1938 und 2024) mit dieser Sprache wurden bislang erfasst. Die meisten dieser Filme wurden in Litauen (271) gedreht. Besonders beliebte Genres für Litauisch Filme sind Drama (167), Dokumentation (106) und Komödie (53). Although we might sometimes be puzzled as to what's actually happening a mating ritual or the start of a fight? the lack of explanation leaves space for us to associate freely and simply experience the images. The film offers a close-up view of a wide range of creatures such as the insect that appears out of the melting snow, gradually begins to move and impatiently waits until all its legs are free so it can fly away. The scale of the portraits is sometimes grand and at other times modest, but always filmed with precision, whether in daylight or at night. Time doesn't seem to matter in this extraordinary piece of slow cinema.
