Die Republik Tschad (arabisch جمهوريّة تشاد Dschumhūriyya Tschād, französisch République du Tchad [tʃad]) ist ein Binnenstaat in Zentralafrika. Sie grenzt im Norden an Libyen, im Osten an den Sudan, im Süden an die Zentralafrikanische Republik und im Westen an Niger, Nigeria und Kamerun. Das Land, dessen Norden Teil der Wüste Sahara ist, ist relativ dünn besiedelt. Neben der größten Stadt des Landes, der Hauptstadt N’Djamena, sind Moundou, Abéché und Sarh größere Städte des Landes. Der weit überwiegende Teil der Bewohner arbeitet in der Landwirtschaft. Ein großer Teil der Bevölkerung lebt trotz der Öleinnahmen des Landes unterhalb der Armutsgrenze. Seit mehr als 20 Jahren ist der Index der menschlichen Entwicklung des Landes einer der niedrigsten der Welt. Der Tschad war früher eine französische Kolonie. 1960 erlangte er seine Unabhängigkeit. Staats- und Regierungschef war von 1990 bis zu seiner Tötung 2021 Präsident Idriss Déby. In der Folge übernahm ein Militärrat unter Leitung seines Sohnes Mahamat einen Großteil der Macht, gemäß Fragile States Index ist der Tschad seither aber ein gescheiterter Staat.
