Guinea-Bissau (portugiesisch Guiné-Bissau [ɡiˈnɛ biˈsau]) ist ein Staat in Afrika. Er liegt an der afrikanischen Westküste zum Atlantik und grenzt an Senegal und Guinea. Seine mehr als 2 Millionen Einwohner gehören verschiedenen Ethnien an, die fünf größten sind die Fulbe, Balanta, Mandinka, Pepel und Manjago. Die Amtssprache ist Portugiesisch, was aber nur von rund 35 % der Bevölkerung gesprochen wird; als Verkehrssprache dient stattdessen guineabissauisches Kreol, was auf dem Portugiesischen basiert und mittlerweile sogar Muttersprache der Mehrheit der Bevölkerung ist. Mehr als ein Viertel der gesamten Landesbevölkerung lebt in der Hauptstadt Bissau. Lange war das Land eine Kolonie von Portugal. Nach einem zwölfjährigen Unabhängigkeitskrieg erlangte Guinea-Bissau 1973 seine Souveränität, danach folgten wechselhafte Jahrzehnte mit mehreren Militärregierungen. Auch seit dem letzten Krieg im Land 1998/1999 hat sich die Situation kaum gebessert, immer wieder gab es Militärputsche. Vereinzelt werden demokratische Wahlen abgehalten, diese führten aber nie zu einer anhaltenden Demokratisierung. Guinea-Bissau wurde stattdessen im bisherigen 21. Exquisitely photographed and filled with archetypal figures to create a poetic look at nature's revenge against those who would exploit her. It is set in the forest village of Amanha Lundju, a place where the birth of children is celebrated by the planting of a tree. The trees are considered spiritual twins. The filmmaker Sana na N'Hada, belonging to that same community, at the time of the film production was himself not initiated. Many years later Sana na N'Hada finally experiences the process through Fanado, what produced the acknowledgement of a personal conflict with his own film: the modernist ethnological look casted upon the events, articulated with his comments in the French language contrasts with the ungraspable, implicated in the opacity of those practices.
