This may be one of Bhutan’s first known short films, which screened internationally. It was nominated as Best Short Film in the Brussels International Independent Film Festival in 2011. Set in Bhutan in 1980 and inspired by true events, this is a story of a mother’s devotion to her child, as she travels a great distance from her poor, remote community to get some medicine from a small hospital for her very ill baby. In a cruel twist of fate she learns that even though the government provides the medicine free, she must supply a container to hold the precious liquid. She doesn’t have a bottle and can’t afford to buy one. The search for a container begins….

The traditional ‘3 Year 3 Month Retreat’ or ‘Lo Sum Choe Sum’ is practiced by Buddhist monks, nuns and other devout practitioners. 3 years, 3 months, and 3 days is calculated as the time needed to achieve a higher state of clarity and motivation. By cutting oneself off from the world, and delving into the inner mind, the retreat is supposed to transform the practitioner. Can Lhamo, a young, wounded girl facing the harsh gaze of the world, find her own form of retreat and redemption? Lo Sum Choe Sum was Bhutan’s first entry into the Berlinale Shorts Competition. It was made in 2015 by filmmaker Dechen Roder, who later produced and wrote and directed the well-acclaimed Honeygiver Among the Dogs.

This film is a journey to the Himalayas, on Goeche La trek. The film portraits his journey from Kolkatta to Yuksam and his trekking from Yuksam to Goechala pass via Tshoka, Lamuney. trekking over ice and the fantastic view at the end of the journey. The trekking lasted for 8 days, and the film was shot on Canon EOS 500 D Camera. The crew was equipped with solar panels and heavy lenses. The film also gives a 10 minute description on Sikkim Production Most of the film was shot at remote locations in the Himalayas. The crew had to face a lot of hardships during the filming process. Powering the camera was a major issue during the filming and heavy solar panels were head loaded to site. Out of 3 cameras carried to the top, two of them gaveup. Sudden Drainage of battery was another problem faced by the crew. as battery doesn't even work at that temperature much below freezing point of water.
