Das Königreich Bahrain (arabisch البحرين al-Bahrain, DMG al-Baḥrayn, lokale Aussprache [æl baħˈreːn]) ist ein aus 33 Inseln bestehender Staat in einer Bucht im Persischen Golf in Vorderasien, östlich von Saudi-Arabien und westlich von Katar (ca. 35 km Luftlinie). Bahrain gehört zu den reichen Ländern. Es stand 2021 auf Platz 24 in der Liste der Länder geordnet nach dem Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) pro Kopf (Deutschland Platz 19). Das Entwicklungsprogramm der Vereinten Nationen zählt Bahrain zu den Ländern mit sehr hoher menschlicher Entwicklung. Der Islam ist in Bahrain Staatsreligion und die Scharia ist die Hauptquelle der Gesetzgebung. Die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung sind Schiiten, die politische Macht aber halten die Sunniten. Bahrain ist ähnlich wie das gegenüberliegende Saudi-Arabien eine Monarchie.
