Eine Gruppe amerikanischer Wissenschaftler, stationiert in der Arktis, beobachtet den Absturz eines Flugobjekts und stellt anschließend eine starke Kompassabweichung fest. Zusammen mit einer Mannschaft der US Air Force fliegen die Wissenschaftler zum Absturzort und dort wird klar, dass es sich um eine fliegende Untertasse handelt. Bei dem Versuch, das Flugobjekt zu bergen, wird dieses versehentlich zerstört. Ein Mitglied der Besatzung kann jedoch in einem Eisblock geborgen und zur Forschungsstation gebracht werden. Als das Eis schmilzt, beginnt für deren Bewohner ein Kampf ums Überleben.
